Professional training for contractors

General Employee Training is mandatory for everyone with unescorted access to the physically controlled area of the power plant to perform their work obligations. One of the requirements to obtain levels of access to the controlled areas of the power plant is a valid certificate of the General Employee Training completion. The General Employee Training program for occasional workers at NEK (outage, occasional works) expires after 18 months.

Proper training is also required for persons assigned to the position of working group leaders – first-line supervisors of external organisations. This means that they must complete the course for first-line supervisors and that they must hold a valid certificate. The supervisors who will perform works and tasks in the radiologically controlled area (RCA) must also hold at least a valid Radiation protection 3 (RP 3) certificate. The course for first-line supervisors expires after 18 months.

To be able to access the Radiologically Controlled Area, the contractors must pass proper training based on the type of work they perform.

Radiation protection 3 (RP 3) is intended for work performers under supervision, i.e. workers:

• who are exposed to radiation but do not manage radiation sources or influence on any other way the condition of the source or the device or facility in which they work
• who do not influence the safety and exposure of other persons and
• who are supervised by persons properly trained on radiation safety.

Radiation protection 2 (RZ 2) is intended for contractors who independently manage radiation sources or independently adopt decisions on the condition of the source or device or facility in which they work in any other way or adopt decisions which can significantly influence their own safety and the possibility of exposure and safety of any other person.

Both trainings expire in 5 years.

The training applies to everyone who performs the tasks of fire watch for hot work. This is an activity performed by a trained person assigned for the supervision of hot work to provide the conditions for preventing fire. The provider of fire watch must hold a confirmation of completing the training for the tasks of fire watch in compliance with the Fire Protection Programme (Fire Code) of NEK. The training expires in two years.

Individual specialist trainings on health and safety at work for the workers of external contractors target the preparation for individual works at the plant. They are intended for persons who will:

• work at a height,
• work in narrow and confined spaces,
• transfer and fasten loads and work with manual lifts.

The above works may provide independently only those workers of contractors who have successfully completed all the necessary trainings and who hold a certificate confirming the latter.

The training expires in three years.
